Bharat Forge a global forging company is planning to set up a state-of-the-art open die forging press unit (14,000 TPA) in India. The project will be implemented in a JV with Areva, France to manufacture associated equipments & an integrated steel making facility. The project location is under evaluation. As of January 2009, both the companies have signed an MoU to implement the facility. The project is expected to be completed by 2012.

BEML formerly Bharat Earth Movers a multi-technology company has announced plans to set up a defense equipments manufacturing unit at Kanjikode in Palakkad district of Kerala. The project is to manufacture defense equipment such as mil wagons, bridges, parts and aggregate for rail & metro cars. The project is estimated to cost Rs.2,660 million. As of January 2009, the proposal is in its preliminary stage. The project is scheduled for completion in 24 months. Plans are also on the anvil to manufacture indigenously developed aluminium & stainless steel 100-tonne freight wagons and other products in phase II.

The unit is to manufacture thin films and will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.20,000 million. As of January 2009, civil works are in progress. Ford India a leading automobile manufacturer is implementing an expansion of its MM Nagar facility near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The facility is augmenting its capacity of engine manufacturing (60,000 units/ yr to 250,000 units/ yr). As of January 2009, civil works are in progress. The facility is scheduled for completion by 2010. Meanwhile, the company is also implementing an expansion of its car manufacturing and is to double its capacity (100,000 units/ yr to 200,000 units/ yr). The expansion is scheduled for completion by 2010.
