Rav's Steels is planning to set up a sponge iron plant (400 TPD) at Rayadurga in Anantappur district of AP. Popuri Engineering & Consultancy Services, Hyderabad has been appointed as the project consultant. The project is to be implemented at an estimated investment of Rs.500 million. As of January 2009, land has been acquired and the clearances are awaited. The project is slated for completion in 8 months from zero date.

Gujarat NRE Coke the largest independent producer of met coke in India has announced plans to implement a slew of projects in Gujarat. The projects will be implemented as part of its expansion plans entails an additional met coke plant (1 million TPA), an additional coal preparatory plant (2 million TPA), a WHR based CPP (60 MW), a fluidized bed based (FBC) thermal power plant (200 MW) and a wind power project (200 MW). The project envisages a cumulative investment of Rs.30,000 million. As of January 2009, the company has signed an MoU with the state government. The expansion is slated for completion in the next 4 years to 5 years.

Tata Metaliks a part of the Tata Steel is planning to implement an iron & steel plant in Haveri district of Karnataka. The project is to entail an estimated investment of Rs.9,840 million. As of January 2009, the project has been approved by the high level committee and the proposal is in a very nascent stage. Meanwhile, the company has reported progress on the setting up of a sinter plant (600,000 TPA) at its Kharagpur facility in WB. Tata Consulting Engineers, Mumbai is the project consultant. The unit is scheduled for completion by March 2010.

Utkal Alumina International a leading metallurgical products manufacturer is implementing an alumina refinery (1.5 million TPA) at Doraguda near Rayagada in Orissa.
