National Aluminium Company (NALCO), a conglomerate with interests in aluminium bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and casting, power generation, rail and port operations is planning to set up a greenfield mining and refinery complex in Andhra Pradesh. The project proposes to mine 4.2 million TPA of bauxite reserves and also setting a 1.4 million TPA alumina refinery. The project investment is Rs. 70, 000 million. Further details of the project could not be ascertained.

Western Coalfields is planning to substantially expand the capacity of its existing Ballarpur mine in Maharashtra. The capacity of coal is to be enhanced from 0.36 million TPA to 0.50 million TPA. As of March 2009, the acquisition of land is under progress.
