According to Kerala Government Fisheries Minister, K. Babu, the government is planning a fish hatchery unit at Tahilipuzha, near Vythiri in Wayanad with an investment of Rs. 1 crore. He also informs that an aquarium constructed by the department at Karapuzha would be opened during Onam. Further, 20 artificial ponds would be set up at a cost of Rs.13.2 lakh. Recently, he has inaugurated a modernized fish market at Kalpetta which was constructed by Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) with assistance from the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). Approximate cost of the same is around Rs.2.5 crores.
