Salem Corporation is planning a bio-methanation plants at Kakayan burial ground on Court Road Colony (Ward 12) with a 10 tonnes per day capacity at a cost of Rs. 1.60 crore, near Kuppai Medu on Erumapalayam Main Road (Ward 44) with a 10 tonnes per day capacity at a cost of Rs. 1.60 crore and five-tonne capacity plant at Shevapet burial ground (Ward 28) at a cost of Rs. 90 lakh. It is estimated that around 15,000 watt of electricity could be generated from the waste in all the three plants.
