About two years after they shut down a new $17.9 million water plant, a $3 million overhaul of the San Benito city’s 90-year-old plant is being planned. The two-phased plan is expected to help the plant operate for about 20 years. As part of the plan’s first phase, the city will buy a $165,000 triplex backwash pump system package. The plan’s second phase will include an adjusted design plan, a supervisory control and data acquisition system, an automation control system and expanded chemical treatment containers. A $12.6 million reserve account is to be dipped to fund the plant’s upgrade.
