Brahmaputra Cracker And Polymer has commissioned stage-I of the Assam Gas Cracker Project at Lepetkata, dist. Dibrugarh, Assam in November 2015. The cost of the project is Rs. 92.58 billion. The cracker, polypropylene (PP) unit, gas processing unit & all utilities have been commissioned. The plant has started producing ethylene, which will form feedstock for manufacturing polymers that are basic building blocks of plastics. LLDPE/ HDPE unit will be made operational after receipt of ethylene from the cracker plant. The entire plant will be commissioned in the next 2 weeks’ time. The Center has approved a capital subsidy of Rs. 21,360 million & a feedstock subsidy of Rs. 9089.1 million for a 15 year period for the project. GAIL & BCPL have already signed a deal for marketing petrochemical products sold at the plant. The petrochemical project will produce various ranges of polymers finding applications in sectors such as packaging film, roto, injection, raffia & blow moulding. Once fully operational, this project will produce 280,000 MT of feedstock for downstream industries. The feedstock for the project will be natural gas & naphtha. OIL & ONGC will supply natural gas & naphtha shall be supplied by NRL.
