European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) are providing a funding package of EUR 92 million to build a natural gas pipeline connecting Romania to Chisinau. The EIB and BERD are each offering an EUR 41 million loan and the European Union will provide an EUR 10 million grant. The funds will go to I.S. Vestmoldtransgaz, a state-owned company that will build and exploit the gas pipeline and interconnector between Romania and Moldova. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is providing EUR 600,000 in additional support for a comprehensive feasibility study conducted by the engineering consultancy Fichtner GmbH. The EBRD is also providing an EUR 1 million grant from its own funds to support the implementation of the project.
