Vikram is planning an expansion of its integrated steel plant at Village Badtumkela, dist. Sundergarh, Odisha. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 4.5 billion. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. The project will also entail a new 10 MW gear waste CPP for which environmental clearance has been received. According to MoEF sources, Global Tech Enviro Experts is the consultant. The total land available for the project is about 102 acres from which 94.5 acres of land already been acquired & the remaining 7.5 acres is to be acquired. The plant has existing 2 nos. of 100 TPD DRI producing 66,000 TPA sponge iron. It has already obtained Environmental Clearance (EC) for the backward integration of beneficiation plant & pelletization plant of 0.85 MTPA & 0.6 MTPA respectively with 10 MW power plant. Now, the company wants to get the EC for enhancing the DRI production to 72,000 TPA, 0.12 MTPA induction furnace with CCM & LRF and 0.1 MTPA rolling mill to produce TMT bar for sale with 10 MW power plant (2 MW WHRB and 2×4 MW AFBC) in phase-I, a 0.25 MTPA pellet plant in phase-II and a 0.85 MTPA beneficiation with 0.35 MTPA pellet plant in phase-III. The raw material, coal will be purchased from MCL. The product-mix shall be 72,000 TPA sponge iron, 600,000 TPA iron ore pellet, 125,000 TPA billet and 100,000 TPA long steel products. The total load of the proposed project is about 30 MW which shall be met partly through own 10 MW captive power plant and balance 20 MW from the state grid. 31% of total land will be earmarked for greenbelt.
